1994 - Costa Rica
1994- Costa Rica
This was the first 'Eco-tour' I had ever gone on. To get there was interesting since we had to fly via Madrid and Miami. Miami Airport departure lounge was a fascinating place with people departing to almost all of the countries of northern South America. The trip started from Costa Rica's capital city, San Hose, and took in walks around the volcanic areas of Mt Poas and Mt Arenal and then onto the MonteVerde Cloud Forest where I managed to see a 3-toed Sloth. In between we had some interesting journeys by Taxi and local bus, including one where we were stuck in a riverbed for 4 hours when our bus broke down. Costa Rica has probably changed a bit since 1994, but I know that the government is determined to keep the forest as pristine as possible and the animals as protected as they can be. There were many fascinating trees, plants and animals as well as colourful birds, butterflies and lizards.
