2005 - Chile
This was the first time I had ventured to South America. As such I wanted a holiday with scenery, good food and wine and a bit of adventure/excitement thrown in. Pura Aventura , based in Brighton, provided all that and a lot more. The trip comprised of.... 1) Fly from the UK to Santiago, Chile, via Madrid, Spain 2) Fly to the Atacama region in the north of Chile 3) Spend 6 days walking/biking through the Atacama desert/High Altiplano 4) Fly to Santiago for a 2-day stay including a visit to Underraga Vineyard 5) Fly to Puerto Natales in the far south of Chile 6) Boat to Largo Grey and onto a disembark at the Grey Glacier 7) A 5 day trek through the Torres Del Paine National Park 8) Fly back to Santiago, for a bit of shopping, then back to the UK via Madrid PLUSSES - there were many - the geothermal region in the Atacama and climbing to 18,500ft up a dormant volcano - wonderful scenery Santiago - a beautiful city though it does have demon bus drivers! Torres Del Paine - more mountains, waterfalls, glaciers, lakes - a bit like Switzerland or Canadian Rockies with a Latin American twist
